As hair professionals we see many people experiencing temporary or permanent hair loss problems. Many of them experience difficulty finding professional and caring support at this particularly difficult time. While there are some retail options to purchase hair replacement products like wig shops, unfortunately, far too often this means receiving a product with no personalised consultation, instruction, nor styling or maintenance advice or support. 

Sadly, it is like many other day to day retail purchases: pick your wig, pay, then go home confused, overwhelmed, frustrated and having second thoughts. The insensitivity of these circumstances birthed the concept of Wig Boudoir – a dream to bring our professional knowledge and passion coupled with excellent products, and services to people in need of a wig.

Wig Boudoir is a wig/hair salon which specialises in providing superior quality, natural looking wigs with a personal, caring, genuine and heartfelt service. Our consultants are experienced hair professionals who are dedicated to delivering healthy, organic non-toxic wig, hair styling and scalp treatments.

We have had personal experience with family members and friends who struggled with hair loss and their difficult journey to find the ideal wig solution. 6 tips for keeping your synthetic wig in good condition

1. Ideally, have two wigs. While you wash one, you can use the other. Another bonus of having two wigs is that you extend the life of each wig.

2. Use mild sulfate free shampoo or our recommended products to best protect your wig's colour and style.

3. Avoid aerosol hairspray, use mousse and other lightweight styling products .

4. Don't place a wet wig on a Styrofoam head as this may stretch the base of the wig. Place your wig on a folding wig stand or the mouth of a jar or vase to dry.

5. Strong Brushes damage synthetic fibers. Use a wide-toothed comb or your fingers.

6. Heat destroys synthetic fibers. Keep wigs away from hot water, hair dryers, ovens, barbeques, irons, cigarette lighters, heaters and open fires.

Also if you wear your wig a few times a week you should bring in your wig to Wig Boudoir  for maintenance, washing and steaming. So your mono fibre Hair will always look good and like healthy, natural hair.....

At Wig Boudoir we do not just “sell you a wig” – we provide you with information so that you can make the best decision for yourself. You may want to come for two or three visits before you feel comfortable with the decision, and that’s fine by us.

We respect your need for privacy. Should it be necessary, we can arrange a visit to you in hospital or where possible at home if you are bed-ridden or immobile. We take great pleasure in helping our clients on their first steps to recovery.

How much will it cost?

Our consultations are free, however wigs vary in price. Cost is determined by how the wig is constructed – ie, is a qualified designer involved? Is it natural hair or fibre? Handmade or machine made? We will be very clear through the consultation process about what these options mean to you. With the knowledge you will be empowered to make better decisions for yourself.

What type of wigs does Wig Boudoir stock? 

Only medical wigs, made specifically with the medical hair loss client in mind. These include handmade, machine made, synthetic fibre and human hair wigs.

Which wig is best for me?

Let’s reiterate that not all wigs are created equal. Wigs need to be tailored to suit individual needs, and the ethnic make-up of our population calls for individual attention. Each wig has certain benefits, but let’s outline the main points:

• A wig must fit the client exactly – front to nape, ear point to ear point. If it doesn’t fit you will never wear it, because you won’t trust that it will stay on.

• Its foundation must be lightweight with a smooth finish to be comfortable and allow your scalp to breathe. 

• The hair fibre must be realistic and in keeping with the volume of hair you are used to having.

• Realistic highlighting of the hair (fibre) is required to be in keeping with today’s styling.

What to look for and what to avoid when looking for a wig?

• Don’t buy a fashion wig – the bases are heavy and the fibre cheap - it will not last the distance, and visually presents badly. 

• Buyer beware when buying online – what the wig looks like on a model under proper lighting, with hairstylists and makeup artists in tow, will be completely different to what it looks like on you at home. 

• Don’t buy a wig without trying it on to make sure the hair density and colour suit you, and the base size not only fits and looks the part, but is also comfortable to wear. 

• Arm yourself with information – ask questions. That is, do you cut/style the wig? Are you qualified hairdressers? Do you custom size the bases? Is there any back up service?
